Pending Sales Fall for Second Consecutive Month in Latest ENCHSI Index

In the latest Eastern North Carolina Home Sales Index, pending sales, a key indicator of sales that will take place over the next 30-45 days, fell for the second consecutive month following the end of the home buyer tax credit. The number of pending sales at the beginning of July was 1,666 as compared to the beginning of June, which was at 2,017. This represents a 17.4% decrease over the previous month and a 30.8% drop over the past two months. Pending sales had risen sharply for four consecutive months prior to the end of the home buyer tax credit.

The number of pending sales fell in 10 of the 11 markets in the ENCHSI. Lenoir County was the sole county to not experience a drop as pending sales remained steady. The largest decrease was 34.7% in the Northeastern Counties.

Pending Sales Fall for First Time in Five Months in Latest ENCHSI Index

In the latest Eastern North Carolina Home Sales Index, pending sales, a key indicator of sales that will take place over the next 30-45 days, fell for the first time in five months. The number of pending sales at the beginning of June was 2,017 as compared to the beginning of May, which was at 2,408. This represents 16.2% decrease over the previous month. Pending sales had risen sharply for four consecutive months prior to this month.

The number of pending sales fell in each of the 11 markets in the ENCHSI. The smallest percentage decrease was 1.3% in Wayne County. The largest decrease was 27.4% in Pitt County.

Pending Sales Rise Sharply for Fourth Consecutive Month in Latest ENCHSI Index

In the latest Eastern North Carolina Home Sales Index, pending sales, a key indicator of sales that will take place over the next 30-45 days, rose significantly for the fourth consecutive month following two months of sharply falling pending sales.  The number of pending sales at the beginning of May was 2,408 as compared to the beginning of April, which was at 2,024.  This represents an 19% increase over the previous month.  This marks the fourth consecutive month with an increase in pending sales of at least 18% since pending sales fell to 1,189 in January. 

Nine of the eleven markets included in the ENCHSI saw pending sales rise.  The largest percentage increase was 37.4% in Carteret County.  The largest decrease was 12.1% in Wayne County.

In the latest Eastern North Carolina Home Sales Index, pending sales, a key indicator of sales that will take place over the next 30-45 days, rose significantly for the third consecutive month following two months of sharply falling pending sales.  The number of pending sales at the beginning of April was 1,996 as compared to the beginning of March, which was at 1,689.  This represents an 18.2% increase over the previous month.  This marks the third consecutive month with an increase in pending sales of at least 18% since pending sales fell to 1,189 in January. 

For the second consecutive month, each of the eleven markets included in the ENCHSI saw pending sales rise.  The range from county to county was from an increase of less than 5% in Nash County to an increase of 36.7% in the Northeastern counties.

In the latest Eastern North Carolina Home Sales Index, pending sales, a key indicator of sales that will take place over the next 30-45 days, rose significantly for the second consecutive month following two months of sharply falling pending sales.  The number of pending sales at the beginning of March was 1,689 as compared to the beginning of February, which was at 1,408.  This represents 20% increase over the previous month and a 42% increase over the number of pending sales at the beginning of January, which totaled only 1,189. 

Each of the eleven markets included in the ENCHSI saw pending sales rise this month.  The range from county to county was from an increase of less than 5% in Carteret County and the Northeastern Counties to a increase of 29.1% in Onslow County. 

The Eastern North Carolina Home Sales Index includes the following counties:  Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Lenoir, Nash, the Northeastern Counties, (Camden, Chowan, Pasquotank, and Perquimans) Onslow, the Outer Banks, (Dare and Currituck) Pitt, Wayne, and Wilson.
