Greene County is currently in the process of conducting a revaluation of all real property.  This revaluation will become effective on January 1, 2013 and is mandated by the state of North Carolina. In order to provide accurate valuations, appraisers with Rasberry Shackelford & Associates are currently visiting properties throughout the county.

The purpose of the visits is to update and verify certain physical characteristics needed in estimating fair market value. Rasberry Shackelford & Associates is a local, independent appraisal firm that was employed by Greene County to assist with the 2013 revaluation.

THE REVALUATION IS EFFECTIVE ON JANUARY 1, 2013

What is a Revaluation?

Revaluations are not conducted to increase revenues of local governments. The reason local governments are required to revalue properties is to ensure the property tax burden is distributed fairly as values change over time. Without regular revaluations, some property owners may be paying more than their fair share The revaluation is concerned only with real property.  State law requires that revaluations be conducted at least once every eight years. Greene County’s last revaluation was effective in 2005.

Additional information regarding the revaluation as well as our current inspection progress can be obtained by clicking on the related links on the right hand side of the page.  If you have any questions concerning the revaluation please direct inquires to Rasberry Shackelford & Associates or you may contact the Greene County Tax Department at 252.747.3615.
